Those who cling to worthless idols forsake faithful love, (Jonah 2:8 HCSB)
I think the idols are far more insidious than I first suspected. It's easy to blame things outside of ourselves...but what if the idol is me? I think it's any thought pattern I get trapped in that makes me less than what he created me to be and to do. I believe those thoughts and those words enough to act on them or speak them...but not on what God said? Why do I trust Him less than the lies in my head? Why do I let good keep me from great? Why do I doubt his love more than I seek a far lesser approval in people? Why do I STILL think I can handle everything on my own?!
....but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...Romans 12:2
It's amazing that His grace covers this junk and His power can help us stand against even our crazy tail selves. I probably explained it too "churchy" because I'm still breaking it all down myself! I have no idea why I'm still getting it wrong, but I do know this: He is patient, He is kind, He never fails...or gets mad and unfriends me...or thinks I'm a flighty no brains. He knows my name. He made my brain. He doesn't like it when I'm hurt. He loves me and doesn't keep a running list of my screw ups. Thanks, God.
