How sweet it is...

Hope you all have a nice Valentine weekend! Not doing anything really special here. I don't really care for the commercialization of forced romance. Bah humbug. I know I sound like a jerk. Craig does sweet stuff all the time and I really don't need a Hallmark day and crowded restaurants.

I learned all I needed to know about Valentine's Day the first year we were married. Our very first Valentine's day was spent with me recovering from a foot operation that required them to re-break my foot and insert a pin. I was on crutches & in pain. Then Craig accidentally sat on my glasses and I was rendered blind as well. I could not stop laughing! It was about as far from romantic as you could get and I thought it was hilarious. The only individual with romance on the brain was my dog, who went into heat before we could have her altered. It was a fantastic day had by all. Craig, who has a great sense of humor, managed to salvage the day by making me dinner and dramatically presenting me with a pretty heart necklace. We ate a ton of chocolate and watched TV together.  It's the stuff that memories are made of.

This year is fun in a much different way. We are making valentine's for my son to take to preschool for all of his friends. That made me think. I don't need a special Hallmark day to show Craig how much I care, but it's a great day to remind me to tell my family & friends how much they mean to me. That will be my focus this year.

I love you all. God bless you all. Happy Valentine's Day!

Attention Deficit!

Ever notice how when you really need to concentrate on getting something done, the whole world seems to conspire against you? It’s kind of like you become the main target for distraction.
I’ve had a day like that today. I’ve been working on a speech for church. It’s long and I really need to have my thoughts organized, which if you have met me, you know that’s a hefty feat to accomplish in of itself.
I sat down this morning while my little one was at preschool and attempted to write. I made some significant headway, but then doubt crept up. I decided I didn’t really like it and didn’t know how I’d finish it anyway in that direction, so I started over.
Well, I tried to. After early success, I ended up sitting with my laptop curser blinking at me for about 10 minutes, so I decided to check facebook. I was sucked into that for 20 minutes and then it was time to get my son.
After that, I’m doing lunch and getting him settled down for a nap. I decided to listen to some music to get my thoughts focused again, and I found a song I liked and danced around the living room, singing.
Ok, refocus again. Any ideas? No. But that song was sure fun, let’s sing it again. Time to check Facebook and throw out some silly tidbit from my brain. My brain has no shortage of sound bites, just nothing worthwhile for a speech.
Back to the speech again. I have an idea, but it peters out about 2 paragraphs in. Start over. I found a quote I want to use but I can’t seem to work it in, so I decide to look for other quotes. Before long I’m laughing at Bugs Bunny cartoons on YouTube. How the heck did that happen?
Refocus again. Maybe this time I have something worthwhile. Typing along pretty well when I need a bathroom break. To my horror, I discover that my 3 year old son was not asleep like I assumed, but in the bathroom playing in the litter box under the sink.
Ok...you know what? I still have time to work on the speech and it’s obviously not happening today. I cannot work in these conditions! So, I’m going to spend the rest of the day doing some fun stuff and maybe...just maybe there is a part of my brain still swirling out speech ideas and I’ll get hit with inspiration soon!
